The Analysis on Visiting Nursing



Abstract
To evaluate visiting nursing care for rural population of a health center and to provide basic data for home nursing care, an analysis of family health records and visiting nursing care activity records for 567 patients who received home nursing care from March 1995 to February 1996 among 6,806 residents above 30 years old at rural area.
The results are as follows
1. Total number of patients who received visiting nursing care during the study period was 567, which constitutes 10.8% of total 6,806 population.
2. The distribution by sex showed male 256 persons(45.2%) and female 311 persons(54.8%). Age distribution showed peak at 50-59 years old group as 161 persons(28.4%). The commonest educational level was primary school, (232 persons, 40.9%). While 84.4% for the male lived with their wife, 61.7% of the female lived with their husband and 37.3% lost their husbands.
3. The analysis of family environment of the patients showed that 69.8%(396 persons) had nucleus family and 89.6% had their own house. 42.9% used water flushed type of toilet while 57.1% used traditional type of toilet. 74.3% had piped drinking water and 25.7% used well of others as source of drinking water.
4. The commonest causal disease for home nursing care was hypertension, which was followed by diabetes mellitus, arthritis, stroke and heart disease in descending order of prevalence. The prevalence of the female was higher than that of the male and the prevalence increased as age got older. 5. Major sources of treatment of five major diseases were medical clinics and health center. Main methods of treatment were drug therau and nutrition control.
6. Home care nurse recommended health center for hypertension and arthritis and medical clinic for diabetes mellitus, stroke and heart disease as major source of treatment. Home care nurse was performing health¢¥s education including nutrition counseling, exercise, drug therapy and etc. by the kind of disease.
In summary rural residents need more home nursing care as age gets older, especially for hypertension, diabetes
mellitus, arthritis, stroke and heart disease and the appropriate development of health education¢¥¢¥ and follow up are required for the effective disease control.
